Since I started working for a life insurance company in 2004, the area of research that I am interested in has shifted towards financial mathematics

Most of my work in the past however, is related to the research area of optimization. Optimization is a key technology within the wide area of information technology for the efficient organization of business and production processes. Still, I am specially interested in the Automatic Layout of Diagrams, called Graph Drawing. It is a field full of nice and challenging problems, most of them being vey difficult as well. 

I used to work at the Center of Advanced European Studies And Research Stiftung caesar in Bonn where our project group has develloped GoVisual, which is a large library of layout algorithms for diagrams (in mathematical terms: graphs) The library can be used in a large variety of Programming languages such as C++, Java, and within the .NET framework. It also found its way into plugins to provide users of software such as Microsoft Visio with graph drawing capabilities.
